ECCN Finder provides reference information about U.S. Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs) derived from the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) Commerce Control List. We are committed to presenting this information accurately, clearly, and in a way that helps compliance professionals do their work.

Data Sources

All ECCN data on this site is sourced directly from the official BIS Commerce Control List published in the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR). Our automated parser extracts structured data from these official sources and presents it in a searchable format.

• Primary source: Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS)
• Regulatory text: Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR)
• Update frequency: We re-sync our database with the latest BIS Commerce Control List on a monthly basis. The CCL is typically amended 2–4 times per year through Federal Register notices.

Content Creation Process

Our content workflow:

1. Automated data extraction — ECCN data is parsed from official BIS sources
2. AI-assisted drafting — Plain-English summaries and guides are drafted with AI assistance
3. Human review — All content is reviewed for accuracy by an editor with knowledge of export control regulations
4. Publication — Content is published only after passing editorial review
5. Ongoing updates — Content is updated when BIS revises the Commerce Control List (typically 2-4 times per year)

What This Site Is Not

ECCN Finder is a reference tool, not a compliance service. We do not:
